Our new church symbol, known as the Hill and the Cross represents a new season in the historic journey of the Olivet Institutional Baptist Church. It symbolizes an emphasis on the central theme of our faith, the cross of Jesus Christ, in our message and in our ministry. Three strokes come together in simplicity to acknowledge an eternal truth. The grey stroke depicting Golgatha’s Hill, the site of Christ crucifixion, reflects the state of humanity without God: lifeless, without true meaning (Psalms 82:5; Ephesians 4:18). The red strokes intersect to form a crucfic made vivid by the blood of Christ, symbolizing the grace, mercy and power of God (Romans 5:9; Colossians 1:16-22).

The symbol communicates our congregational understanding that we are ultimately saved from the forces of sin, in our lives and in our community, through faith in the redeeming loving God and respond to God’s act of redemption through the practice of the love ethic of Jesus in the world (Ephesians 2:8; Matthew 25:31-40).
